From cuts to cuddles, live up to Brown’s big expectations on and off the field as fatherhood beckons

GH: They had two touchdowns, but he had the play of the day, intercepting that swing pass for a touchdown with six seconds left in the first half.

CB: We were able to do a double dip. Score a goal at halftime and then just score as soon as we have the first opportunity after halftime. That gets you two points. (snapping fingers). Like two seconds.

GH: As Zack said, he wanted to be the last one to get the ball at that point because there were only six seconds left. What was going through your mind?

CB: It just shows how much trust Burrow has in Zack to throw him on a swing pass, a one-on-one play, into a really tight situation, usually a situation where you either put the ball out of bounds or want to throw into the back of the end zone. It just shows the trust that Joe has in Zack to make someone fail and make a play in a tough situation like this.

GH: Just like they showed confidence in you on the third and third goals on the goal line.

CB: That’s it. Especially as a younger, second-year player. Just building confidence, getting a feel for the game and just trying to get better. Continue this trend we are currently following. Build your confidence every week and continue that success.

GH: I can’t believe a fan threw water on you after Sunday’s game.

CB: To be honest, it didn’t really bother me. It kind of looked like a blue Gatorade or something. We just got our first win, so I’m not going to overreact and jeopardize my career over a few drops of water, you know what I mean?

GH: Your brother Sydney, a security guard, has been on IR but will be back soon. I know you’re hoping he can play here on October 27th when the Eagles come into play.

CB: That would be a lot of fun if it were him.

GH: We’ll see it this week. Dax Hill, your cornerback, plays against his brother, Ravens running back Justice Hill.

CB: When brothers play against each other in the NFL, it’s like absolute dream mode. But they do it twice a year. For them it’s completely normal.

GH: You are a creature of habit. How has your daily routine changed since your rookie year?

CB: I just try to do as much as possible for my body.

GH: It seems like you disappear from the locker room to the training area for hours.

GH: I have a routine in mind. I wrote it down this offseason. I just follow it every day. Trusting it to make sure my body is in the right place every Sunday.

GH: I know you write things down. Today is Monday after a game. When do you write down what you do today?

CB: For this week, I would probably write it down today. But on a day like today, I kind of have the same routine every Monday. I already know what I’m doing in my head.

CB: I probably come here around seven o’clock to go to the sauna.

GH: That’s pretty early after a game.

CB: It’s a good mental challenge at the start of the week, right after a game. Somehow it seems right to me. Go lift. Get in the tubs.

GH: How long does that take?

CB: Everything? It takes me about two and a half hours to get everything done and then get treatment. Go have lunch here. Then I work on the established schedule that we have with the team. So special teams, offense-defense. Then I’ll talk to you.

GH: Which wasn’t planned.

CB: This is leisure. I’d probably hang out here before the team meeting anyway.

GH: It seems stricter for you than last year.

CB: Stricter, more thoughtful. I’ve already gone through all the trials and errors, things that worked last year and things that didn’t work.

GH: What didn’t work last year?

CB: I spent way too much time in the sauna. I don’t think that really helped me. I do it on a day like this, but I’m more mindful and consider my routine and what works for me and gives me the right mindset.

GH: This past offseason you committed to training your body, right?

CB: I’m just working on my skills and trying to become a better player.

GH: Were you able to say on Sunday that the off-season work paid off?

CB: Absolutely, definitely. Just catch the ball, run the ball and just relax out there. Trust in that. Everything I did in the summer.

GH: You and your girlfriend Jazmen Brock announced that you are expecting your first child (a boy). Due date?

CB: Playoffs and a baby are coming up around that time. I won’t miss a playoff game.

GH: Have you thought about how fatherhood would impact your routine?

CB: It’s something that’s been floating around in my head. But I don’t think it will affect my routine. My girlfriend is an extremely hardworking person and fully supports my football career. So I know the sacrifices she will make for me and I will make them for her. I don’t think this will change anything.

GH: You were raised by a single mother, and I imagine that is very important to you.

CB: I am very proud of being a good father.

GH: Did you consider anyone a father?

CB: I have several father figures. A lot of people I met in high school in Florida. Also a bit of college. People I can turn to for advice. It prepares me for certain situations. I have faith in the man I am today. I feel like I will definitely learn a lot on my journey as a father. But in the end, I know that I will do everything I can to ensure that my son receives the best possible care and that I am there for him in every way.

GH: What are you most looking forward to?

CB: When I think about it, it’s just cuddles at the moment, honestly.

GH: You’ve never been hugged by a father figure.

CB: No, but from my mother. That was enough for me and my brother. My grandma. We had a lot of love.
