FPL injury update: Palmer, Watkins, Solanke, Odegaard, Ake, Foden currently available for GW4 | Football | Sports

After a long and, let’s face it, arduous international break, the Premier League returns this weekend with an exciting schedule to look forward to.

Manchester United face a tough test on the road to Southampton, while early risers Manchester City and Liverpool have winnable games at home.

That should mean a lot of points for Fantasy Premier League heavyweights Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah, who both started the season at full steam.

But what about the players who are unlikely to feature? Ahead of the upcoming GW4 deadline, Express Sport has released all the latest injury news from the FPL.

Ollie Watkins

For the FPL managers who own Ollie Watkins, it could be now or never.

The striker is yet to score this season and has wasted a number of chances, but this weekend he could get the chance to make his dream come true when they play at home to Everton.

That is if he is fit enough, as the attacker pulled out of England action earlier this month. His condition remains unclear until Villa’s pre-match press conference.

Martin Odegaard

Given the severity of the Gunners’ injury crisis, it is probably easier to consider who is currently available for Arsenal’s midfield than who is not.

The latest player to suffer an injury is Martin Odegaard, who sustained an ankle injury while playing for Norway.

He will be in the stands alongside midfield partners Declan Rice (suspended) and Mikel Merino (injured) for this weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham.

Dominic Solanke

Ange Postecoglou did not comment on the extent of Dominic Solanke’s injury before the international break and stressed that it was not a serious problem.

Before the defeat to Newcastle last month, Postecoglou said: “Dom is close but we will be a bit cautious with him. We have a busy schedule after the international break so he will not be there on Sunday.”

There is a good chance that he will play against Arsenal, but perhaps not from the start.

The Spurs boss said on Friday: “Dom is improving and he has been training for the second half of this week. We have two more days with the boys so we hope they get through training well and are available.”

Nathan Ake and Phil Foden

The score between Pep Guardiola and Manchester City is one to one.

In the week that Phil Foden started training again, Nathan Ake was injured on international duty and the defender is expected to be out for some time.

This is a blow to the FPL players as Ake would probably have played at home against Brentford and perhaps even scored points.

Regarding the defender’s injury, Pep Guardiola said on Friday: “We are unlucky with Nathan and the national team. Every time he goes there, he comes back injured.”

Guardiola later confirmed that Ake would likely be out for about a month.

Micky van de Ven

With another Spurs player missing from Tottenham’s final game before the international break, fans are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that Micky van de Ven will be there this weekend.

The good news is that Van de Ven’s injury is reportedly not serious and the defender is unlikely to miss any more games.

And it seems that he is fit enough to start against rivals Arsenal.

Postecoglou said on Friday: “Micky is fine, he has been training throughout the international break and it was good for him to stay with us to rebuild him so he is ready.”

Cole Palmer

After making over 50 appearances for club and country last season, the focus this time around was on managing Cole Palmer’s workload.

He has already been dropped from Chelsea’s Conference League squad to reduce his playing time, which should be good news for the FPL owners as he is likely to feature in the Premier League whenever he has time.

That starts this weekend away at Bournemouth – a game in which Chelsea cannot afford to lose any more points.

The deadline for GW4 ends on Saturday morning at 11am.
