Foreigners applying for a residence and work permit for Denmark must declare their salary in DKK

Danish authorities have announced that the country has decided to adjust salary declaration requirements for foreigners wishing to enter the country for work purposes.

As announced by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), foreigners applying for a residence and work permit for the purpose of taking up employment in the country will have to declare their salary in Danish kroner (DKK) from September 1, 2024, reports Schengen.News.

This means that SIRI will no longer accept pay slips in foreign currency. The adjustment of these rules applies to all applications for a residence and work permit.

The assessment of whether the salary complies with Danish standards is made in Danish kroner (DKK), which means that the salary must be stated in Danish kroner (DKK). In the future, SIRI will not accept salary statements in foreign currency.

According to current regulations in Denmark, foreigners must prove that their salary and employment conditions meet Danish standards in order to obtain a residence and work permit.

The requirement applies to anyone submitting an application after September 1

The requirement to prove that the salary meets the country’s standards applies to both first-time applicants and applicants applying for an extension of their permit.

In cases where the salary in the employment contract is stated in a foreign currency, there should also be a part where the salary is stated in DKK.

The practice adjustment applies to all applications for a residence and work permit in the employment sector received from 1 September 2024.

For the extension of a residence and work permit, however, the salary stated in a foreign currency will be accepted provided that the original permit was issued before September 1, 2024.

In these cases, the foreign currency is converted into DKK and a decision on the extension of the permit is then made based on the exchange rate.

Denmark began introducing a new income requirement for foreigners applying for a residence and work permit for the purpose of taking up employment in the country on 30 June 2024.

For all foreigners who applied for a residence and work permit after June 30, 2024, the application will be assessed on the basis of the new salary statistics.
