Forecast for Wednesday: Significantly cooler and weathery

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – After only seeing half an inch of rain all month (which fell in a single day on October 21st), we could very well reach and POTENTIALLY exceed that amount on Wednesday. This is all thanks to a cold front that will lower highs to seasonal levels.

Let’s start with the falling temperatures. This front will move through most of southeastern Nebraska through early Wednesday morning. Since this occurs during the nighttime hours, we expect our highs to reach well before sunrise, with temperatures falling throughout the day to the low 50s in the afternoon. Where the front has already moved through on Tuesday, the maximum values shown below will be reached in the afternoon. It’s a messy setup!

However, the serious threat increases after 7 a.m. and into the early to mid-afternoon hours. Conditions are in place for isolated to isolated and possibly even numerous severe thunderstorms with the possibility of winds, hail and even a few isolated tornadoes.

We don’t want heavy weather, but we definitely want torrential rain, and we can expect to get some among the expected thunderstorms. There will be a narrow gradient from low to high amounts, but anywhere between 0.25 and 2.00 inches COULD FALL from central to southeastern Nebraska, with heavier amounts being higher the farther east you go. The Lincoln area could see 0.25 to 0.75 inches by Wednesday evening.

And after many dry days, the rain won’t let up anytime soon. Halloween and Friday will be dry, but unsettled weather is expected Saturday through next Tuesday. The seasonal highs continue into November.

Further rain is possible this weekend and next week.
