Follow undefeated FBS college football teams in the 2024 season

As the 2024 college football season continues into October, we’re tracking every team still fighting for a perfect season.

Entering Week 8, only 11 FBS teams remain undefeated. The Big Ten leads the way with three undefeated teams – the SEC lost three of its four undefeated teams in the chaos of Week 6.

Teams are listed by their ranking in the current AP Top 25 poll and then in alphabetical order.

#1 Texas

Record: 6:0 (2:0 SEC)
Last game: Defeated Oklahoma 34-3
Last undefeated season: 2005 (13-0, won BCS National Championship Game)

The Longhorns remain the only undefeated team in the SEC after their convincing win over then-No. 18 Oklahoma in Week 7. However, Steve Sarkisian’s squad faces its toughest challenge of the season next week as No. 5 Georgia travels to Austin to try to add a loss to the Longhorns.

WOW WOW: Vanderbilt upsets No. 1 Alabama, Arkansas stuns No. 4 Tennessee

No. 3 Oregon

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big Ten)
Last game: Defeated Ohio State 32-31
Last undefeated season: 1916 (7-0-1, won Rose Bowl)

The Ducks are on a roll after defeating Ohio State in Eugene on Saturday night. Dan Lanning secured Oregon’s first-ever win over a top-two opponent and the Ducks are now the team to beat in the Big Ten. The Ducks will try to keep the ball rolling next week against a struggling Purdue team. Looking ahead, Oregon only has two ranking games left on its schedule – home against Illinois and away against Michigan. There are no guarantees, but the Ducks have passed their biggest test in the quest for a perfect season.

No. 4 Penn State

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big Ten)
Last game: Defeated Southern Cal, 33-30 (OT)
Last undefeated season: 1994 (12-0, won Rose Bowl)

James Franklin’s team showed resilience in Week 7, battling back from a 20-6 halftime deficit to defeat Southern California 33-30 in overtime. The Nittany Lions will receive a week off to prepare for Wisconsin in Week 9 and Ohio State the following week.

No. 6 Miami (Florida)

Record: 6-0 (2-0 ACC)
Last game: Defeated California 39-38
Last undefeated season: 2001 (12-0, won BCS National Championship Game)

The Canes received a much-needed bye week after two close wins over Virginia Tech in Week 5 and California in Week 6. Cam Ward has had an outstanding season for Mario Cristobal’s squad and Miami remains one of two ACC teams undefeated entering the week are 8.

No. 11 Iowa State

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big 12)
Last game: Defeated West Virginia 28-16
Last undefeated season: N/A

This may not be a team you would expect to see here, but Iowa State played some good football. The Cyclones are back in the rankings this season for the first time since 2021 and are coming off a convincing win against West Virginia. Matt Campbell’s team secured its first 6-0 start since 1938 in Week 7, and the Cyclones will look to stay perfect next weekend at home against UCF.

No. 14 BYU

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big 12)
Last game: Defeated Arizona 41-19
Last undefeated season: 1984 (13-0, won national championship)

After a difficult first season in the Big 12, the Cougars have already surpassed their conference win total from 2023. They have two ranked wins at Kansas State and SMU, and Kalani Sitake’s team easily defeated Arizona in Week 7. The Cougars will look to carry that momentum into their Week 8 game against Oklahoma State.

T-No. 18 Indiana

Record: 6-0 (3-0 Big Ten)
Last game: Defeated Northwestern 41-24
Last undefeated season: (1945(9-0-1)

Although Indiana hasn’t had the toughest competition yet, the Hoosiers are still 6-0 for the first time since 1967. First-year head coach Curt Cignetti and senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke have found something in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will receive a bye week to prepare for their toughest test of the season against Nebraska on October 19th. No one knows how long this run will last, but Cignetti has already secured bowl eligibility for the Hoosiers, who have appeared just five times since 1993.

No. 22 Pittsburgh

Record: 6-0 (2-0 ACC)
Last game: Defeated California 17-15
Last undefeated season: 1976 (12-0, won national championship)

The Panthers are coming off a disappointing 3-9 season in 2023, but redshirt freshman transfer Eli Holstein has lit a fire on this Pitt team. He has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in five games, securing narrow wins against Cincinnati, West Virginia and now California in Week 7. Pitt picked up a two-point win against a stubborn Cal team, and the Panthers received a bye to face Syracuse in two weeks a week earlier.

army

Record: 6:0 (5:0 American)
Last game: Defeated UAB 44-10
Last undefeated season: 1958 (8-0-1)

The Black Knights average over 38 points per game while allowing fewer than 10, and believe it or not, Army has the longest winning streak in FBS football at 10 points. Based on the first six games, Army is expected to play Notre Dame by November 23rd. The Irish have proven themselves beatable, and if the Black Knights get it done, we could be discussing Army in the 12-team playoffs at the end of November.

Freedom

Record: 5:0 (3:0 CUSA)
Last game: Defeated Florida International, 31-24 (OT)
Last undefeated season: N/A

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Flames, but they are 5-0 for the second straight year. They are coming off an overtime win against FIU on Tuesday, but without a ranked game on their schedule, Liberty could be looking at another undefeated regular season.

marine

Record: 5:0 (3:0 American)
Last game: Defeated Luftwaffe, 34-7
Last undefeated season: 1926 (9-0-1)

Rounding out this list are the Midshipmen. The Navy has already reached its 2023 victory mark, and much like the Army, the Midshipmen have yet to be truly challenged. Similar to the Army, it looks like the Navy could travel to its matchup with Notre Dame on October 26th. The Midshipmen face the Irish a month earlier than the Black Knights, and it will be a great test to see how serious the Navy roster really is this season.
