OnePlus launched the new OnePlus Open Apex Edition in India on Wednesday (August 7).

The new foldable premium phone features expanded storage, artificial intelligence (AI)-based image editing tools and innovative security features.

Additionally, the OnePlus Open Apex Edition comes in a brand new colorway – Crimson Shadow. It features a premium synthetic leather back with a textured finish. It also features a diamond-shaped pattern complemented by bright orange accents on the alert slider on the side.

It also has a special VIP privacy mode. This can be turned on using the alarm slider on the side. Once this is turned on, the phone’s microphones and camera will be turned off. And even apps installed on the phone will not be able to access these two features of the phone.

The company has also incorporated ARM’s SecurCore SC300-based Goodix GSEA0 security chip. It protects all sensitive information such as user IDs and passwords associated with apps and online accounts stored on phones from cyber threats.

The device also comes with a massive 1TB UFS 4.0 storage and 16GB RAM. The rest of the features like display, processor, camera and battery capacity are the same as the original OnePlus Open.

For the uninitiated, OnePlus Open flaunts a 6.31-inch 2K AMOLED LTPO screen, supports a 120Hz refresh rate, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and is protected by Corning’s Ceramic Guard.

Inside, it features a wide 7.82-inch 2K Flexi Fluid AMOLED LPTO 3.0 screen, 120Hz refresh rate, and supports peak brightness up to 2,800 nits. It is protected by a three-layer shield with an ultra-thin protective glass.

OnePlus Open features a redesigned hinge and the foldable display is sturdy, the latter having no noticeable crease in the middle like we see on traditional foldable phones.

OnePlus has used several patented technologies to reduce the number of components required to just 69 parts, compared to the over 100 components typically required for traditional folding hinge designs.

The company has used high-quality carbon fiber and aerospace-grade metals, including titanium, to make the device lightweight (239 g) yet durable so that it can serve the customer for several years.

OnePlus Open is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and runs OxygenOS based on Android 13.2. It is specially optimized to provide a seamless user experience on a foldable phone. It also comes with a guarantee of at least three years of Android updates (until 2027) and an additional year of software security support (until 2028).

It has a 4,805 mAh battery and supports 67 W charging speed.

OnePlus Open features a 48MP Hasselblad triple camera module (with LYTIA-T808 sensor, Dual Layer Transistor Pixel technology, OIS: Optical Image Stabilization), supported by a 48MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 64MP telephoto lens (OIS) with LED flash on the rear.

There is a 32 MP camera on the cover display and a 20 MP sensor inside.

OnePlus Open Apex Edition offers several new generative photo tools based on artificial intelligence (Gen. AI) such as the image editing functions AI Eraser and AI Smart Cutout.

OnePlus Open Apex Edition is priced at Rs 149,999 on OnePlus e-store, Amazon and other authorized retail stores in India.
