Florida man who woke up from 244-day coma died seven years later after being hit by a truck

A man survived a coma that lasted 244 days – but seven years and one week later he was tragically killed by a truck.

In July 2017, a few days before his 23rd birthday, Drew Kohn was in a motorcycle accident in Jacksonville, Florida, First Coast News reported.

He was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed a traumatic brain injury, a ruptured lung, and a broken shoulder, pelvis, and ribs.

“Doctors thought he was brain dead and would never walk or speak again, but through faith and the power of prayer, he emerged from a coma after 244 days and lived his life to the fullest,” a GoFundMe page said.

“They would have harvested his organs,” his mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, told First Coast News. “My faith gave me the courage to speak out, to fight back and tell them I’m not going to get a toenail or an eyelash.”

When he woke up, he said, according to his mother, “Yes, Mom, I’m fine. I love you, Mom.”

But on July 26, 2024, a few days before his 30th birthday, Kohn was the victim of another accident. He was hit by a pickup truck at 5:30 a.m. in Jacksonville while walking.

According to reports, the driver immediately stopped and called 911. Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Independent has emailed the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office requesting more information.

“We miss him more than words can express, but we are comforted knowing he is finally home,” the GoFundMe page reads. “He was passionate about helping those suffering from trauma and traumatic brain injuries and always gave them hope.”

The fundraiser raised nearly $12,000 to help pay for his funeral expenses as well as medical bills that had accumulated over the years.
