Game Notes

• Week 2 marks the fourth meeting between Florida and Samford overall and the first since 2021 (UF 70, SU 52).
• With a total of 122 points, the 2021 meeting was the highest-scoring game in The Swamp’s history.
• It was the second highest scoring game in team history after the 1913 season opener against Florida Southern (S, 144-0).
• Florida’s 717 yards against Samford in 2021 are the second-best in team history (774 yards against West Texas State in 1982).
• Before the 2021 meeting, 99 years had passed since the Gators last played the Bulldogs on October 28, 1922 (UF 57, SU 0).
• Going back even further, Florida defeated Samford in two consecutive seasons in 1921-22.
• In these two games, Florida defeated Samford (then Howard College) by a total margin of 91-0 (34-0, 57-0).
• In each of the last three FCS games since 2021, Florida has exceeded 560 total points while rushing for over 250 yards.
• Florida has a 23-1 record against FCS teams since 1981, with its only loss coming in 2013 against Georgia Southern.
• The Gators averaged more points than their opponents in those 24 games, outscoring them by 38.8 points.
• Florida has totaled over 400 yards and passed for over 200 yards in eight consecutive games against FCS teams since 2014.
• Since 1996, the Gators have averaged over 400 yards in 16 of their 18 games against FCS schools.
• Florida could field its first true freshman quarterback in 115 games – since Treon Harris started in the last game of
  the 2014 season on January 3, 2015 in the Birmingham Bowl (Florida 28, East Carolina 20).
• In Florida, a total of six different freshmen were used for 12 starts as quarterback and achieved a record of 7-5 in these games (Wayne Pace 1980,
  Donald Douglas in 1989, Jessie Palmer in 1997, Chris Leak in 2003, Jacoby Brissett x2 in 2011, Treon Harris x6 in 2014).
