Flooded streets in Wilmington, Brunswick and New Hanover due to Tropical Storm Debby

As Tropical Storm Debby’s stronger rain bands reached the Wilmington area Wednesday evening, reports of street flooding increased.

“Significant flooding is expected,” the National Weather Service in Wilmington said in a press conference on Wednesday. “More heavy rain is expected, especially tonight into Thursday. Be especially cautious at night when the flood threat is harder to detect.”

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper addressed the issue on Wednesday, saying now is not the time to drive on flooded roads.

“Now is not the time to check if your car floats, because it doesn’t,” Cooper said.
