The Fantastic Four: First Steps breaks with a 16-year-old Marvel film tradition, as the D23 2024 updates show. Marvel’s MCU reveals at D23 were admittedly not as groundbreaking as many expected. Even at San Diego Comic-Con two weeks earlier, Marvel focused on already announced films, with the main selling point being the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Endgameexciting story. D23, however, had nothing of this magnitude The Fantastic Four: First Steps I have received some exciting news.

The cast of the MCUs Fantistatic four Film appeared in a video from the set of the film and revealed a major aspect of their characters. In the video, Joseph Quinn was spotted wearing a very different outfit than his co-stars, revealing the Fantastic Four’s new MCU costumes. Michael Giacchino’s Fantastic Four theme features a first for the MCU

The film music for “Fantastic Four” has a unique element

The new MCU title card of the Fantastic Four

The aspect of the film in question is the score composed by Michael Giacchino. At D23, Giacchino presented for the first time the main theme he chose for the score of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The theme is as good as you would expect from Giacchino, but contains something never seen before in the MCU.

“The Fantastic Four” is the sixth Marvel film for which Giacchino composed the music, after “Doctor Strange”, the Spider-Man trilogy and “Thor: Love and Thunder”.

At the end of the piece You can hear a choir singing the theme “Fantastic Four”. In the 16-year history of the MCU, no main theme from an orchestral score has ever been uttered with the title of the film or its main characters. While choirs have featured in MCU scores, notably in the Black Panther Singing the words of the titular team in the films is completely new to the franchise.

Why the change in the choir of the Fantastischen Vier makes so much sense

The Fantastic Four is a Marvel film of a different kind

Although this choral addition may seem like a small change from Marvel’s past, it actually makes sense within the themes of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. On the one hand The fact that this aspect has never been part of the main music of a Marvel film distinguishes The Fantastic Four from any other MCU movie. This is due to the fact that the film takes place in its own universe, separate from the main MCU universe, and the film’s score subconsciously underlines this point by differentiating itself from other films in the series.

Secondly, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be set in the retrofuturistic 1960s of another universe. A choir singing the name of the Fantastic Four in the film’s main theme recalls the somewhat kitschy, lurid tone of 1960s superhero projects, similar to the theme song of Adam West’s Batmanfor example. By breaking this 16-year-old MCU music trend, The Fantastic Four: First Steps proves once again that the 2025 film will be different from previous ones in the MCU while also featuring a fantastic main theme by Michael Giacchino.
