First reactions from screening revealed

Gladiator II had its first screening on Friday evening and initial reactions have already found their way onto social media.

The sequel to the 2000 film was shown at the Paramount Studios lot in Los Angeles, where media and film critics got their first look at the film starring Denzel Washington, Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.

Gladiator IIIn the Ridley Scott-directed film, Mescal plays the adult Lucius Verus II, a nephew of the original film’s Emperor Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Lucius returns to Rome after being forced into slavery to fight not as a ruler but as a gladiator in search of revenge and power, and seeks to return the glory of Rome to his people.

The cast also includes Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Derek Jacobi, Rory McCann, Fred Hechinger, Matt Lucas, May Calamawy, Tim McInnerny, Peter Mensah and Alec Utgoff. The film hits theaters on November 22nd.

Gladiator II is The film will be premiered by Paramount Pictures on Thanksgiving after the original film, released more than two decades ago, won five Oscars and grossed $465.4 million worldwide. The first trailer, released in July, also received 215 million cross-platform views worldwide in just a few days.
