Out of Call me by your name To We are who we are — and of course challenger — The Italian director has repeatedly focused on queer themes and is well-versed in portraying another searing, intoxicating romance.

His latest film is set to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, but even before the screening, a picture of the James Bond star in his new role has emerged.

The first look at the film, which is set in 1940s Mexico, shows Craig reading a newspaper in front of a store.

With the help of colleagues challenger‘ Screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, Queer follows the story of Lee (played by Daniel Craig) and his life in Mexico City. Lee moves from bar to bar in the American expat scene in search of fulfilling sexual encounters.

The film, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by William S. Burrough, also caused a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival. Initial reports said the film was one of the 007 star’s best works.

In the book, written with self-deprecating black humor, Lee finds himself in a downward spiral and falls madly in love with Allerton (played by Drew Starkey), a young discharged American marine.

Also starring in the film is singer-songwriter Omar Apollo, who recently announced his involvement. The star will make his big screen debut in the upcoming film.

Responding to a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) that read, “Omar Apollo joins Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey in Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Queer,'” the star confirmed the news.

“First film with Luca, wow, hot cast,” wrote the “Pedro” singer on the social media platform.

Other cast members include Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Andres Duprat, Ariel Shulman, Drew Droege and Colin Bates. Behind the scenes challengerCostume designer Jonathan Anderson, music composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom are also returning.

Queer is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, which will take place from August 28 to September 7.
