Filip Jorgensen admits Chelsea still have a lot of work to do before the season

Filip Jorgensen was pleased to make his first appearance for the Blues against Real Madrid, but admitted that there is still a lot of work to be done before the start of the season.

Jorgensen joined the club from Villarreal last month for €24.5 million and will compete with Robert Sanchez for first place.

The 22-year-old made his first appearance in the win against Club America and was given a chance from the start against the Spanish champions, but the Blues were already 2-0 down after 20 minutes.

Jorgensen is happy about his first start

Although they have only won one of their five matches in America, there are some positives to the tour and one can see a clear style of play and the development of an identity.

The Blues are doing well going forward, but their problems lie in defence, where they have conceded twelve goals in five games. The focus was on the high defensive line.

Enzo Maresca has spoken of his desire to shorten the defensive line by four or five metres and Jorgensen admitted that this is something that needs to be worked on.

“I think they are doing well but we need to work on some things,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I also have to stand high when the back line is so high, but that is something we can work on because we have two weeks until the Premier League starts, so we will work on that.

“No, I think they’re doing pretty well and I think I could get high and make less room. We’ll get to know each other and work on a few things.”

On a more positive note, Jorgensen expressed how happy he was to make his first appearance for the club, but also admitted that he hates losing.

“Of course I am happy to be in the starting line-up for this club for the first time,” he added.

“I love to win and hate to lose, so I’m not happy with the result.

“I’m looking forward to the extra minute of play and to getting to know everyone better on and off the pitch, coming home and taking a breather.”
