FBI seizes cell phone of Republican Congressman Ogles as part of financing investigation | 104.1 WIKY

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – FBI agents have seized Republican Rep. Andy Ogles’ cellphone as part of an investigation into issues related to his disclosure of campaign funds, the incoming lawmaker said on Tuesday.

“Last Friday the FBI seized my phone,” Ogles said in a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“For months, there were reports everywhere that my campaign made mistakes in its initial financial filing,” he said.

Ogles, who represents a district near Nashville, Tennessee, said he would cooperate with law enforcement and the Federal Election Commission, but did not provide further details about the investigation.

Ogles won his first term in the House of Representatives in the November 2022 election with a comfortable 55.8% to 42.3% against a Democratic opponent.

Former President Donald Trump is backing Ogles, who is a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus. Last month, he introduced a bill calling for the impeachment of Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of “gross incompetence” in dealing with immigrants crossing the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

Harris was not responsible for border control. President Joe Biden had tasked her with working with the “Northern Triangle” countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua on the root causes of migration in their respective countries.
