Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Early Additions for Week 2

It’s never too early to start focusing on the next game and improving the lineup for your fantasy football team. Here are some options to consider for Week 2.

If I told you that a healthy Mark Andrews would finish Week 1 of the 2024 season with just two catches for 14 yards, while Isaiah Likely would finish with a stat line of 12-9-111-1, would you believe me?

Probably not. (Sorry, I had to.)

But that’s exactly what happened in the season-opening loss to the Chiefs. Likely was nearly unstoppable in that game, averaging 12.3 yards per pass and seemed to be Lamar Jackson’s clear No. 1 target.

Of course, it’s too early to say there’s been a change at tight end guard for the Ravens. Andrews was on the roster for most of the game, as the Chiefs seemed to be committed to removing him from Lamar Jackson’s arsenal. Still, it would be beneficial for the Ravens to use Likely, especially considering that A) he’s an athletic prodigy and B) the Ravens don’t exactly have a deep pool of pass catchers. With Jackson at quarterback, this offense could… probably make two tight ends relevant for fantasy. Should probably be on the roster in far more than just a third of fantasy leagues.

Despite all the rumors that talented rookie AD Mitchell would be given a more prominent role from the start due to Josh Downs’ injury, it was actually third-year Alec Pierce who came out on top in Week 1. Pierce was only able to catch three balls on three attempts in the game, but he made the most of it, managing 125 yards and a touchdown.

And while it was great to see Anthony Richardson’s arm on the throws that led to Pierce’s stats, we should temper our expectations here. Pierce was the third-best player behind Michael Pittman Jr. (8) and AD Mitchell (5), and Downs missed this game again. Nonetheless, we saw Pierce’s ability to make big plays and his connection with ARich. Pierce is officially on the flex radar.

Look away, Marvin Harrison Jr. fantasy managers, look away.

While everyone was waiting for the rookie phenom to deliver in his debut, Greg Dortch actually led the Cardinals in receiving on a day when the team scored 28 points. Dortch was second in targets (8) behind Trey McBride (9), but first in catches (6) and yardage (47). He also carried the ball for four yards once.

Harrison Jr. had four yards on one catch (three targets).

Again, it’s only Week 1. Better days are ahead for the rookie. But it seems Kyler Murray really trusts Dortch coming out of the slot, targets in a fantasy-friendly offense. At the very least, Dortch seems viable as an emergency flex starter in deeper PPR leagues.
