Fans have heaped praise on Arne Slot after the Liverpool manager delivered a scathing analysis of Man United’s problems after the game on Sunday afternoon.

Slot was instrumental in his Liverpool side’s 3-0 win away at Old Trafford, with Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah both scoring for the Reds.

It was Slot’s third league game as manager and his third consecutive win. His team is the only one in the Premier League to have not conceded a goal.

The Dutchman’s tactics have paid off and after Sunday’s game he gave fans an insight into his excellent analysis after breaking down United’s structural problems.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot said: “Last season they man-marked in midfield and applied pressure with the seven and eleven (the wingers). So with the striker, and one of the wingers jumped with him.

“This season they are more likely to press 9 and 10, so more like 442. That is obviously different. In my opinion they work harder when the ball is played through them, so they run more. At least that is what I saw in their first games.

“Their style is also – this might have been last season, I don’t remember that well – but their full-backs are nine times out of 10 really high and then Casemiro comes in between. So if you can pick up the ball and keep Diaz and Mo Salah high, you’re constantly in a one-on-one situation.

“Then you need midfielders who can run and we had three of them today who kept running and when they get into a tackle they are aggressive enough to win it. I think that was one of the main reasons why we were able to win today.”

After the game, Slot also stressed that he wanted to enjoy the talent of Mohamed Salah for as long as possible after the Egyptian scored one goal and provided two assists in Liverpool’s 3-0 win.

Salah, 32, is in the final season of his Liverpool contract and admitted afterwards that he considered this to be his last appearance at Old Trafford.

Asked about Salah’s comments, Slot said: “It’s a lot of ‘ifs’. At the moment he’s one of us and I’m really happy that he’s one of us and he played really well. I don’t talk about players’ contracts, but I could talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

“Everything you want to see as a manager, you saw in this game,” said Slot.

“There were difficult moments for us. United started really well but then we disallowed the goal and there was no negative reaction.”

“We kept playing, scored three goals, we could have scored more, Alisson made two important saves and even without the ball the performance was incredibly good. It was a very positive day.”
