The excessive heat warning has been extended through Sunday for much of the Bay Area as the region is hit by a late heat wave for the sixth straight day.

The National Weather Service announced this on Saturday morning that the warning remains in effect for Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties, as well as the North Bay Mountains, the Santa Cruz Mountains and inland Monterey and San Benito counties.

Meanwhile, a heat advisory remains in effect for the North Bay valleys and coastal areas of San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.

“Dangerously hot conditions with daytime temperatures reaching 105°. Overnight temperatures will be warm in the 70s to lower 80s,” the weather service said.

The watches and warnings remain in effect for most of the region until 11 p.m. Sunday, while the excessive heat warning for San Francisco expires late Saturday evening.

Officials urged people to protect themselves from heat, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and limit outdoor activities in the afternoon and evening.
