Ex-Obama aide explains Kamala Harris’ latest move: “It was smart”

A former Obama spokesman has weighed in on Kamala Harris’ recent media move, praising her appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Oct. 6.

Tommy Vietor, who served as spokesman for the National Security Council during the Obama administration and is the founder of Crooked Media, a progressive podcasting network, posted on his X account (formerly Twitter) about Kamala Harris’ decision to be interviewed.

Vietor wrote: “Heard Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy. Alexandra Cooper reports on Kamala’s upbringing, values and an in-depth conversation about abortion.”

Vietor added: “Some reporters will scoff, but that was smart.”

“Call Her Daddy,” hosted by Alex Cooper, is the second most listened-to podcast on Spotify, but Harris’ appearance on the podcast may have been unexpected.

What started as a podcast full of raunchy stories has evolved into an interview-focused show that focuses on mental health, sex and relationships, and most importantly, the careers of powerful women.

Accordingly Forbesit is the most listened to podcast for women. It is also the fourth most listened to podcast across all podcasting platforms, behind The Joe Rogan Experience, Crime Junkies and The Daily, according to Edison Research.

On the podcast, Harris discussed various political platforms as well as personal interests.

Harris discussed her commitment to restoring reproductive rights, her student loan forgiveness proposals and her plan to build three million more housing units by the end of her first term.

She also hit back at Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said her children “keep her humble.” Harris added that in addition to having a good relationship with her stepchildren, “there are a lot of women out here who don’t strive to be modest.”

Cooper also addressed her decision to have Harris on the podcast, where she doesn’t typically talk politics.

She said she “can’t imagine a world where women are at the center of this election and I’m not a part of it.” She added that the podcast also reached out to Donald Trump, who was welcomed on the show, to share his thoughts on women’s rights, adding that “this is not a one-sided conversation.”

Other women who have appeared on “Call Her Daddy” include Miley Cyrus, Amanda Knox and Simone Biles.
