“Everyone is First to Die” is knocked off the throne in the Netflix top 10 list by a new film

Finally, we have a truly great Netflix original movie at #1 on the top 10 list, knocking off the previous #1 movie, a truly terrible Netflix original movie. That terrible movie is the horror movie “Everyone’s First to Die” and that good movie is “Rebel Ridge,” which has now debuted at #1 and is being watched by many at this very moment.

“Everyone’s First to Die” received terrible reviews because it was supposedly based on a “true” ghost story (which has been debunked in several ways). Critics, who are usually more forgiving towards horror films, gave it 32% and audiences gave it 47%, which isn’t much better. Thankfully, it was replaced by a film that fared much better: “Rebel Ridge,” which, unlike a similarly named Netflix original, “Rebel Moon,” is receiving excellent reviews with a 94% critic score and an 82% audience score. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

“Terry Richmond comes to the town of Shelby Springs on a simple but urgent mission: to post bail for his cousin and rescue him from imminent danger. But when Terry’s life savings are wrongfully seized by the police, he is forced to confront local police chief Sandy Burnne and his embattled officers. Terry finds an unexpected ally in court clerk Summer McBride, and the two become embroiled in a deep-rooted conspiracy in the remote community. When things turn deadly, Terry must use his mysterious past to break the police’s hold on the community, bring justice to his own family – and protect Summer in the process.”

The film doesn’t have any really big stars. The lead role is played by Aaron Pierre, who previously starred in the longest-running Syfy series Krypton. The most famous name in the cast is Don Johnson, of Miami Vice fame. I know who AnnaSophia Robb is because I remember roles she played when she was much younger, like Race to Witch Mountain and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now she’s kind of 30. Time flies.

It looks excellent and I’ll be watching it this weekend. Honestly, I’m a little surprised that the newly added Sonic the Hedgehog movie is at #3, given all the hype surrounding the third movie, whose trailer was just released. I thought it would probably end up at #1, but it’s not. Emma Stone’s Aloha was pretty high a few days ago, but now it’s slipped to #5 because maybe people realized it’s actually terrible. The former #1 movie, the also-bad Netflix original The Union, has slipped to #8. Super Mario Bros. still refuses to fall off the list at #10. Unbelievable.
