England player ratings vs Greece: Phil Foden missing again! The disappointing Three Lions were beaten despite the heroics of Jude Bellingham, while Jordan Pickford struggled in goal

Lee Carsley’s hopes of landing the England job permanently suffered a setback after a terrible performance at Wembley in the Nations League

England began their international campaign in October with a terrible 2-1 home defeat to Greece in the Nations League.

The Three Lions were the second best team for most of the evening and were deserved losers on Thursday evening.

Lee Carsley’s decision to field an ultra-attacking line-up backfired and there will be doubts about his credentials for the full-time leadership role.

England were penalized for failing to win the game against Greece when they fell behind shortly after half-time. Star striker Vangelis Pavlidis tiptoed away from Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and John Stones before firing past Pickford from close range.

Lee Carsley’s men continued to look vulnerable on the counter-attack and suffered another late offside flag after Greece had the ball in the net again, while Ollie Watkins hit the crossbar with his first touch of the ball after being substituted.

Greece were denied a second goal twice more due to an offside position before Jude Bellingham brought England level with a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area in the dying embers.

But until late into stoppage time, Pavlidis secured all three points for Greece with his second goal of the evening.
