Emmys 2024 live: Jessica Gunning wins first prize for Baby Reindeer as The Bear dominates

The 2024 Emmys take place tonight, with a controversial Netflix show baby reindeer, Kitchen drama The bear and historical series set in Japan Shogun among the frontrunners.

The three-hour ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and begin at 8 p.m. ET (midnight GMT). A live broadcast will be streamed on ABC, while the show will be available to watch the next day on Hulu.

This year’s event will be hosted for the first time by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, who jointly developed and starred in the hit series. Schitts Creek.

“We will keep it bright and friendly,” Dan Levy told the Los Angeles Times, while his father added: “You set the tone, and it’s our tone. It is what it is.”

“It’s a little tricky when you’re in the small stuff, but ultimately we have to stay true to ourselves and do what we find fun.”

The award winners include Hollywood legends and Mary Poppins Star Dick Van Dyke, 97, along with Allison Janney, Martin Sheen, Matt Bomer, Lily Gladstone and Kristen Wiig.

Jessica Gunning wins the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries for Baby reindeer.

Gunning plays Richard Gadd’s stalker Martha in Netflix’s controversial hit drama.

“Thank you for trusting me to be your Martha. I will never forget her or you or this. This really means a lot to me, so thank you, reindeer,” Gunning said to Gadd from the stage, referring to the pet name her character had for him.

Dan made fun of Martha’s text messages on the show, joking that he had received eerily similar messages from his father.

“We’re hosting the Emmys. Colin Farrell will be there, are you still in love?” read a text projected onto the stage behind the presenters.

“Walter O’Keefe joke too mean? Sent from my iPhone,” was another, and a third read, “Best ramen near me.”

“I think you were about to Google that,” Dan joked. “There are 59,000 more that those came from,” he added, referring to the number of text messages the real Martha allegedly sent to Richard Gadd.
