Elon Musk pulls the plug on the pro-Trump-X town hall: “Let’s cancel this”

Elon Musk held a political town hall shortly after it began on Monday

The virtual event on the eve of the election is just the latest in a series of town halls where Musk urged voters to support Donald Trump. But this event, which took place on his own platform, started around 20 minutes later than planned and only went downhill from there.

A moderator on the call reportedly had four callers on the line who wanted to ask Musk questions – but each time they called, no one answered. The unknown host relayed a question from the caller and simply asked, “Will we win?”

“Well, I think if people vote tomorrow, we’re definitely going to win,” Musk replied, adding, “You know what? I think we should cancel this as there appear to be some technical challenges.”

The Tesla CEO said he would host a Spaces event on X instead. This event began right after City Hall, but apparently had no sound and only lasted a minute CNN. Musk then appeared to have given up on the company entirely.

“In lieu of a question-and-answer session at Town Hall tonight, I recommend listening to this discussion about the election I had today with Joe Rogan,” Musk said wrote in a post This also included the video of his appearance on Rogan’s podcast.

The scrubbed town hall isn’t the first political event to go off the rails on the platform formerly known as Twitter. In May 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis decided to announce his ill-fated presidential campaign on X alongside Musk – who once announced that he would vote for DeSantis in 2024. The event was plagued by breakdowns and delays, prompting Mockery from Trump.

Then, in August 2024 – by which time both DeSantis and Musk had bowed the knee to the former president – Trump got his own taste of X’s technical problems. The Republican candidate’s Spaces interview with Musk was also delayed Musk claims a cyber attack took place and agreed with another X user who suggested that “Democrats” might be to blame.
