An eleven-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were stabbed to death in London’s Leicester Square.

In an article on XThe Metropolitan Police said a man had been arrested and taken into custody, but police believe there are “no other suspects”.

Paramedics said the two victims were taken to a “major trauma centre”. Their condition is currently unknown, the Met said.

A store employee who helped prevent the stabbing told the BBC he heard “a scream” and so “jumped at the attacker… and kicked the knife away from him.”

After the stabbing, several police officers were on site

Police officers remain on site in one of the capital’s busiest tourist districts.

Abdullah, 29, who works at TWG Tea in Leicester Square, said he intervened to stop the attacker, who had blood on his face and chest.

“I heard a scream, went outside and saw a guy had a knife,” he explained.

“When I saw that, I immediately jumped on the guy, grabbed his hand, pushed him to the ground and kicked the knife away from him.”

He said two other men also came to help and held the man for “four to five” minutes. He decided to take this step because “I didn’t have time. I just wasn’t thinking.”

“Honestly, it’s terrible. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” he said.

“It’s terrible to do something like that to a child.”

Shortly after the attack, several police officers were still on site at the crime scene next to the Lego store at Schweizer Hof, right next to the square itself.

Objects were visible on the ground behind the tape, including a green lighter, a black cap and bloody napkins. A small crowd had gathered in the distance.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were called to a report of a stabbing at 11:36am (BST).

They said: “We have dispatched resources to the scene, including a rescue crew, a paramedic and an incident commander. We have also dispatched members of our tactical response unit.”

“We treated a child and an adult on site and transported them to a major trauma center.”
