Election 2024 live: Trump allies fight over Cabinet posts as Harris caves, tells voters to ‘never give up’

What happens next? The most important dates until Trump’s second inauguration

Donald Trump has won a historic second term in the White House in a shocking political comeback four years after leaving office, handily defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Republican surpassed the magic number of 270 electoral votes early Wednesday morning after winning key battleground states.

He also won 51 percent of the popular vote, receiving 72.5 million votes to Harris’ 68 million votes, while falling well short of Joe Biden’s 2020 vote total of 81 million.

The president-elect will now consider appointments for his second administration as his conservative allies and surrogates begin the campaign jockeying for position in hopes of securing a top job.

Harris called Trump yesterday afternoon to congratulate him on his victory and spoke of the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and his role as president to all Americans.

In her subsequent concession speech at Howard University, the Democrat said that while she conceded the election, she did not acknowledge the fight that fueled her campaign.

“The fight for freedom, opportunity, justice and dignity for all people and ideals at the heart of this nation… that is a fight I will never give up.”

Steve Bannon suggests MTG should become Trump’s head of Homeland Security

Project 2025 wasn’t the only concern on Steve Bannon’s mind yesterday.

He also expressed the idea that Marjorie Taylor Greene should be appointed as head of the Department of Homeland Security in the president-elect’s new administration.

Trump ally Greene, who was re-elected to Congress for a third time on Tuesday, spoke to Bannon after the Republicans’ overwhelming victory.

Bannon noted that the Georgia arsonist “has been with us from the beginning,” adding, “Congressman Greene, you have done so much work. You’re such a fighter. Now, is there any truth to the rumor that you will be taking over as DHS?”

Greene laughed but dodged the question a bit, answering: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, Steve, we’re just thrilled to have President Trump back in the White House.”

Scott Jennings: Election Results “Revenge of the Regular Old Working Class American”

The former Republican strategist went viral with this assessment of the vote, which he delivered as part of Anderson Cooper’s CNN panel on election night.

Jennings, often divisive, argued that the result was “the revenge of the regular old working-class American” as well as “an indictment of the political information complex.”

He explained that the final weeks of the campaign were filled with accusations of Nazism and fascism against the Trump campaign and media narratives such as the Puerto Rico joke, Liz Cheney’s support for Harris, the disaffected Nikki Haley electorate that may be the Trump -Voice fueled, and before that had been dominated by, the popularity of the camouflage hats by Tim Walz and Harris-Walz.

Ultimately, none of these talking points matter, Jennings argued, accusing the liberal media of ignoring “the fundamentals” – the state of the economy and the cost of living – on which the public ultimately voted.

Here is John Bowden about why the pollsters were so wrong – again.

MAGA allies say they can finally admit Project 2025 is “the agenda” for Trump’s second term

Donald Trump’s allies are bragging that they can finally admit that the project is on the “agenda” in 2025 when the president-elect returns to the White House next year.

Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief White House strategist who was released from prison just days before the election, used his War Room podcast on Wednesday to reflect on the former president’s upcoming second term.

Bannon cited a social media post by conservative activist Matt Walsh that baited Kamala Harris’ supporters about the right-wing plan.

“Now that the election is over, I think we can finally say that the 2025 project is actually on the agenda. Lol,” Walsh posted

“Matt Walsh, in my opinion, is a very smart and funny guy,” Bannon said on his podcast.

The re-election of Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar is one of the few electoral advantages for young progressives

Amid all the bad news for Democrats yesterday, a bright spot for the party’s progressive wing was the re-election of Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar in Michigan and Minnesota, respectively.

The first two Muslim women to enter Congress are critics of Israel and important voices for Arab Americans.

They, along with New Yorker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are also members of “The Squad,” a collective that lost two other members earlier this year when Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush were voted out in favor of opponents who had significant professional financial support -Israeli lobby group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Elon Musk claims that “being a normal person” helped Trump win the election

The social media kingmaker spoke to Tucker Carlson yesterday and suggested that the Republican candidate won the vote this week because he appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and came across as a “normal person.”

The Harris campaign was unable to agree on a broadcast date with Rogan and the influential broadcaster duly delivered a late endorsement for Trump, which in turn led to UFC boss Dana White shouting at him at the candidate’s victory party in Florida in the early hours of the morning thanked yesterday morning.

Obama and Clinton “wish Trump and Vance well” after election victory

Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton all posted on social media yesterday that they wished Trump and JD Vance well after their election victory (presumably through gritted teeth) and set a good example by openly accepting the result.

Both couples campaigned for Harris, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, had a more pragmatic message to disillusioned and disappointed party activists yesterday:

Here’s more of it Kelly Rissman.
