The trap of Social expectations have caught their latest victim in Dwyane Wade. This weekend, the three-time NBA champion attended an unveiling ceremony for an eight-foot-tall statue of himself that was gifted to him by the Miami Heat. His reaction to the character can only be compared to getting a horrible sweater from your grandparents or one of those art sets with markers that never work and having to play it off like it’s the best gift you’ve ever received has. “This is crazy, I can’t believe it,” Wade said, glancing back at the statue. “Who is this guy?”

Wade might have had to hold back his true reaction at the event, but the internet is not loyal to the Heat. “It’s an amazing moment, but why did they put Laurence Fishburne in a Wade jersey?” One user commented on the revelation on Instagram under the ESPN post. Another added: “I think he was joking when he asked who this guy is!”

Over on The comparisons on both sides ranged from Samuel L. Jackson to Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus and Nipsey Russell as Tin Man The magician, and the Marvel supervillain Thanos.

Regardless, Wade seemed to genuinely appreciate his team’s gesture. “I wanted to feel that. Life goes by so quickly and it is very rare that we feel something because we are always on the way to the next thing,” he continued in his speech. “So I didn’t prepare much because I wanted to feel that, man. I wanted to check it out.”
