Duran Duran cover “Evil Woman” for the “Danse Macabre” Deluxe Edition

Duran Duran are getting into the Halloween spirit again with their new cover of the Electric Light Orchestra’s 1975 classic “Evil Woman.” The track will appear on the upcoming deluxe edition of the band’s 2023 album. Danse Macabrewhich is expected to arrive on October 11th.

Duran Duran’s rendition of “Evil Woman” is driving, seductive and just the right touch of eeriness, with the band mixing elements of new wave, disco and rock. The track comes with an animated lyric video by Juan Pinto, which follows the theme of the spooky season.

Danse Macabrewhich was released last October, was Duran Duran’s 16th studio album and also a Halloween-themed record. It featured three new songs, three reworkings of Duran Duran deep cuts, and covers of spooky songs by artists like Billie Eilish, the Talking Heads, the Rolling Stones, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

In a statement, Nick Rhodes said the album was “born from a spontaneous decision to put together a record that celebrates the madness and joy of Halloween.” The process, he continued, “opened an unexpected box of curiosity and creativity,” and the inspiration was still there when the band began thinking about the new deluxe edition of the album.

“I liked the idea of expanding the collection because we could,” Rhodes said. “Why not add some of the songs we had originally considered, now that we’ve had the luxury of a little more time?”

Along with her new cover of “Evil Woman,” the deluxe edition of Danse Macabre will feature a new instrumental, “Masque of the Pink Death,” and a remake of “New Moon on Monday,” titled “New Moon (Dark Phase).” The latter track will feature contributions from guitarist Andy Taylor, who largely left the band due to his battle with prostate cancer.

On trend

These three tracks will appear on the streaming and CD versions of Danse Macabre Deluxe edition, but the vinyl release will include four additional new tracks. These include two additional instrumental pieces, “The Visitor” and “Dialogues of the Dead”; a song called “Spooky,” described as a “Brides of Dracula track”; and a spoken word by Rhodes entitled “Instructions for a Séance.” (CD and vinyl releases October 25th.)

Duran Duran also has a handful of shows scheduled for later this month, including a special appearance on Halloween, October 31st, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
