A driver was cited after hitting a teenage cyclist on a crosswalk near a high school this morning.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of 13th Street N. and N. Quincy Street, next to Washington-Liberty High School. An officer on the scene noticed the accident and immediately radioed paramedics.

The cyclist complained of back pain, but was not initially taken to hospital.

“The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained on scene and was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk,” Ashley Savage, spokeswoman for the Arlington County Police Department, told ARLnow. “The bicyclist, a male in his teens, sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.”

The accident required a partial closure of North Quincy Street, causing traffic delays for those heading to school on the last day before the extended Labor Day holiday.
