Donald Trump says he is “exactly the opposite” of Adolf Hitler

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump found himself on the defensive over comments from his former chief of staff, saying Thursday that he was not a fascist but “the opposite” of German dictator Adolf Hitler.

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly “made a statement that I’m like Hitler,” Trump told Fox News. “It couldn’t be further from the truth. Actually, it’s just the opposite.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris and her allies are calling out Kelly’s comments, which were published in the New York Times earlier this week.

Citing the dictionary definition of fascism, Kelly told the Times of Trump: “So he certainly falls within the general definition of fascism.”

Kelly also said that Trump said more than once, “You know, Hitler did some good things too.”

Trump and his supporters said Kelly wanted revenge for his firing.

In an interview with Fox News Channel’s Bill Melugin, Trump said: “I fired him. He was a tyrant. He was a villain and a weak guy in the end because all bullies are weak in the end. And he wasn’t a smart guy. That’s a bad combination.

Opponents said voters should consider the source of the allegations against Trump.

On his personal X account, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said, “It’s one thing for a left-wing group to call you a fascist. It’s completely different if it’s a fellow Republican. And absolutely amazing when it’s your own chief of staff.”
