Dodgers news: Jack Flaherty hamstring, Miguel Rojas hernia surgery

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty left Game 1 of the World Series in the sixth inning after feeling tightness in his hamstring, although the team is not yet worried about his availability for the rest of the series.

On the field, just before Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run home run for the only runs scored against the Dodgers’ starter, Flaherty sailed an 0-2 fastball well beyond the strike zone. After that throw, Flaherty shook out his right leg.

After the home runs against Stanton, Flaherty made another pitch to Jazz Chisholm Jr., a ball, before manager Dave Roberts went to the mound with the hook.

“His hamstring was a little tight,” Roberts said. “I don’t think it’ll be a big deal, but that’s why he shook his leg.”

Flaherty is scheduled to start Game 5 on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, which would have four days off. But we’ll see in the next few days whether this tightness in the hamstrings continues.

Walker Buehler will start Game 3 on Monday with a bullpen game in Game 4.

On another injury front, Miguel Rojas is back at shortstop in Game 2 against the Yankees, making his first start in 18 days since Game 3 of the NLDS as he misses time to treat his torn left adductor muscle.

He said he feels better now than he did in September and has been dealing with off-and-on leg problems since the All-Star break. Shortly after the end of the season he plans to have a sports hernia operation.

“I just want to make sure I do everything I can to be on the field and play with it,” Rojas said Saturday at Dodger Stadium. “I know I have to have it. As soon as possible is better because I will have a normal offseason and look forward to playing for a few more years.”

The procedure is carried out by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia, who also performed the procedure on both legs for Kiké Hernández last October. Rojas, who turns 36 in February, said the expected recovery time from surgery would be about three to four weeks before he could return to baseball activities, which shouldn’t stop him from being ready for spring training.

The Dodgers have a $5 million club option on Rojas for 2025, with a $1 million buyout. All option decisions must be made within five days of the conclusion of the World Series.
