SPOT demonstrations

Beginning in September, Laughlin Children’s Center, in partnership with the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation and the Mary Hillman Jennings Foundation, will offer SPOT (speech, physical, occupational and therapeutic) evaluations at a significantly discounted rate for children who may benefit from speech or occupational therapy.

Laughlin Children’s Center partners with local preschools and daycare centers to provide important regional assessments. State-certified speech and occupational therapists visit preschool classrooms in surrounding communities to identify speech, hearing, fine and gross motor, or sensory issues in children. These assessments provide a snapshot of a child’s abilities and allow Laughlin Children’s Center to review typical development and point out potential problems.

A developmental screening is not a diagnosis, but a way to assess a child’s abilities. If a child shows difficulties during the screening, a comprehensive evaluation may be recommended.

Some discounted screenings are also available at Laughlin’s Children’s Center, 424 Frederick Ave., Sewickley. Screenings at the Center must be scheduled by emailing [email protected] or calling 412-741-4087.
