Doc Harris, best known among anime fans for his work Dragon Ball Z as the narrator of the first English dub of the series, has died at the age of 76.

Via Broadcast Dialogue, popular voice actor and radio host Doc Harris passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, following a reported minor surgery last month. Harris was known to many as a popular Canadian broadcaster, while older anime fans know him as the narrator of Ocean Productions’ English dubbed version Dragon Ball And Dragon Ball Zincluding several of his films.

Harris was known for his silky and deep voice, which captivated audiences with his skillful tone. His credits include Barbie and the Rockers: Out of this world, Camp Candy, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic And Dragon Ball Zall of which he shared with his long-time friend and colleague Ian James Corlett.

Corlett, who voiced Goku in the Ocean dub, posted a touching tribute on Instagram yesterday in which he described Harris as “living, breathing music” and with a “keen eye for film” and described him as a great force in his career. “He was unique. When we were back in Vancouver this summer I must have said, ‘I HAVE to see Doc on this trip, I owe him so much… well, at least lunch!’ 😈 And now it’s too late. Actually, I owe you a hundred lunches. Help a young man like me who basically has little to no experience. It ended with “RIP DOC. You are number 1 in my heart.”
