Do you have Ticketmaster tickets? Check your account to make sure they are still there

People are turning to CBS News Philadelphia after their tickets were stolen directly from their Ticketmaster accounts. It turns out this is a nationwide problem.

Lisa Bell bought tickets to next Sunday’s Eagles game for her daughter, who has never been to a game. Bell spent more than $700 on the tickets she purchased Ticketmaster. Then, two days ago, Bell said she received an email saying her tickets had been transferred.

When she opened the Ticketmaster app, she said the tickets had been transferred to someone she didn’t know.

She said she then spent hours on the phone trying to reach a Ticketmaster representative, without success.

“We’ll see the Eagles on TV. I will probably never order from Ticketmaster again,” Bell said.

Cara Gaudino of Wilmington is in Philly for the weekend and hopes to see a comedy show at The Met on Sunday. She had already made the plans in March. Just like Bell, Gaudino said days ago, “I get an email saying your tickets have been transferred to someone else.”

She said Ticketmaster should have another layer of security in place before transferring tickets from one account to another.

“When people log into your account or, you know, try to transfer tickets, then text us so we can make sure it’s us,” she said.

CBS News Philadelphia has reached out to Ticketmaster. They say scammers are accessing email accounts. The full statement from a Ticketmaster spokesperson reads:

“Overall, our digital ticketing innovations have significantly reduced fraud compared to the days of paper tickets and duplicate PDFs. Using this digital history, we are also able to examine and successfully return tickets to fans. The best way for fans to protect themselves is to set a strong, unique password for all accounts – especially their personal email addresses, where scammers in all industries often look for new scammers, and tickets are always a Target because they are valuable, which is why Ticketmaster continually invests in new security improvements to protect fans.

It is unclear how big this problem is.

After CBS News Philadelphia contacted Ticketmaster about this issue, one of Bell’s Eagles tickets was reinstated and Gaudino’s two show tickets were restored to her account.
