Distinguished actor gets special role at Oxford University

Distinguished actor Stephen Fry has been appointed Visiting Professor of Creative Media in the Faculty of English at the University of Oxford.

Mr Fry, an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter and film director, was described by the university as a “general national treasure”.

Professor Marion Turner, Chair of the English Faculty Board 2021-2024, said: “I am delighted that Stephen Fry has accepted our invitation to be Visiting Professor of Creative Media for 2024-2025.”

Mr. Fry has written and presented several documentary series, written columns and articles for newspapers and magazines, reads for voice-overs, appears frequently on radio, and has written four novels and three volumes of autobiography: “Moab Is My Washpot,” “The Fry Chronicles.” and “The Fry Chronicles.” his latest, More Fool Me.

As a proud gay man, the award-winning film Out There, which documents the lives of lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender people around the world, is part of his thirty-year advocacy for the rights of the LGBT+ community.

As part of his professorship, Stephen Fry will give a lecture at the Sheldonian Theater in Oxford on January 24, 2025.
