Dispute over mutton curry at wedding party: Many injured

Nizamabad: A clash broke out between two groups of people over a portion of mutton curry at a wedding in the mandal headquarters of Navipet. Several people were injured in the incident. Navipet police have filed a case against 19 people, including women.

The bride came from Navipet on Wednesday while the groom came from Badguna village in Nandipet mandal. Both the families shared the expenses and arranged a lunch. However, some relatives complained of discrimination when mutton was served.

The catering staff refused to serve mutton to the guests as they would have preferred. Some guests, who were allegedly drunk, asked for more mutton.

A man allegedly attacked the catering staff with cutlery, which led to a violent clash between the two groups with cutlery and sticks. Stones were even thrown. Some guests were injured and taken to the Navipet Health Centre.

Following a complaint, the police went to the scene and dispersed the warring parties.

In conversation with Deccan Chronicle On Thursday, Navipet sub-inspector K. Vinay said they had registered a case against 19 people. “We are identifying the other accused and no one has been arrested so far,” he said, adding that the condition of the injured was out of danger.
