Di Francesco rages after the game between Inter and Venezia: “A draw would have been fair”

Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco believes a draw against Inter Milan would have been a fair result for his team.

The coach spoke on Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Serie A game FCInterNews. He was furious and argued that his team’s late equalizer should not have been annulled.

For a moment Venezia thought they had scored a dramatic equalizer against Inter.

The Lagunari never stopped fighting for a result, knowing that every point could be valuable in the relegation battle.

And Inter gave Venezia reason to hope. They failed to finish the game as the score remained 1-0 after seven minutes of stoppage time.

It was Venezia substitute Marin Sverko who directed a cross over the line late into stoppage time.

That was a bitter moment for Interalthough they undoubtedly felt like they had themselves to blame after failing to finish the game.

However, Venezia’s joy was short-lived. And for Inter it was a sigh of relief.

Referee Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi, along with her VAR, rejected Marin’s goal.

There had always been the appearance of a foul as the Venezia full-back climbed over Inter defender Yann Bisseck to get to the ball and get it over the line.

In addition to the push on Bisseck, replays also showed that Sverko actually controlled the ball with his wrist.

However, for his part, Venezia coach Di Francesco was not convinced that the decision to deny his team the final equalizer was the right one.

“For me, the referee favored the other side,” said the Venezia coach bitterly.

“For me, the foul on the goal hardly seems obvious,” he argued.

Di Francesco then said: “I would like to congratulate my team, who took risks but from what we saw a draw would have been the right end to the game.”

“The boys tried to cause Inter problems until the end,” said the Venezia coach about his team’s performance.

“We will maintain the excellent game we played,” he added. “But it’s a shame about the result.”

Di Francesco then said: “Inter’s greatest quality is in transition.”

“It is not enough to simply close them. They can hurt you if you try to play a game like we did and try to get into their half of the field.”

“It was a combination of things we could have done better,” Di Francesco added.

“We were too shy in the first half. But then we handled things much better from the start of the second half.”
