Derek and Hayley Hough have an incredible story of survival to tell.

The married dancers are working on a documentary that takes a look back at the frightening moment Erbert collapsed backstage during their Symphony of Dance tour in December.

The documentary Voyeur Verite Presents, which has not yet been distributed, is directed by Jason Bergh (The greatest love story never told) and produced by Bergh and Stephan Bielecki. EPs include Derek Hough, Jeff Goldenberg and Courtney Carter. DP is Matt Bass.

On Tuesday’s episode of Dancing with the starsHough recalled the moment as he waited on stage for his wife to join him. Suddenly, the stage manager told him that Erbert was having severe seizures and was “essentially dying.”

Doctors later warned Hough that his wife might not survive her emergency craniectomy, and if she had survived the brain surgery, she might not be the same person — let alone able to walk.

Erbert not only survived the operation, but also made a full recovery. She accompanied her husband on tour again and returned on Tuesday DWTS Ballroom to perform a stunning contemporary piece with Hough on Dedication Night.
