Democratic delegate from Texas robbed at gunpoint near DNC in Chicago

A member of the Democratic delegation from Texas was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in downtown Chicago early Wednesday after the party’s convention.

The victim – who was reportedly in the Windy City this week for the Democratic National Convention – was walking with a friend near the Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago around 2 a.m. when he was attacked by a gunman wearing a ski mask, Chicago police said.

Before confronting the two, the shooter drove across the street in a black Range Rover and robbed a 25-year-old man of his wallet and hotel room key, police said.

The thief then allegedly ran across the street and demanded property from the couple – a 40-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man identified by CWBChicago as a member of the Texas Democratic delegation.

After robbing the man and woman, the perpetrator got back into the SUV and sped away. No injuries were reported, police said.

The police did not want to provide any further information about the victims, including whether they were in the city for the party conference.

On Thursday, police were searching for the robber and the suspected getaway driver, who were described as two men between 1.70 and 1.75 meters tall.

The pair are also linked to at least three other suspected robberies that took place this week, including an incident at 10:30 a.m. on Monday and an armed robbery outside the Emily Hotel at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The unidentified suspects are said to be behind another similar robbery that took place around the same time the delegate was attacked on Wednesday.

The Chicago office of the Democratic National Convention did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
