Lost in the coverage of the likely approval of Tom Brady’s attempt to buy part of the Raiders is that Richard Seymour’s bid will also soon be completed.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Seymour’s agreement to buy a limited portion of the team was approved by the league’s finance committee.

As PFT reported in July, Brady and Seymour had done so linked their previously separate transactions together. The source says Brady and Seymour’s offers have since been severed.

Brady’s purchase brings additional baggage because of the conflict of interest between owning part of a team and theoretically working for Fox as an analyst for games involving all teams. The Brady restrictions obviously wouldn’t apply to Seymour.

We’re also told that Brady’s purchase isn’t the slam dunk that others have reported. Some owners remain concerned about his role at Fox, as evidenced by the decision to ban him from team facilities, practices and production meetings on Fox’s behalf. Ultimately, if just nine of them refuse to give Brady the thumbs up, the deal won’t go through.

Seymour, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, played with Brady in New England. As teammates, they won three Super Bowls. The Patriots traded Seymour to the Raiders in 2009, where he spent four seasons.
