And as a former prosecutor, she can hold Trump accountable, too. She wants to make her mark on voters and continue her momentum, while Trump wants to end what his campaign sees as her extended honeymoon phase. The former president hopes to show that she is the same as Biden and link her to his most controversial policies while presenting himself as something else.
  • 🎧 NPR’s Scott Horsley says Trump will likely try to blame Harris for much of the inflation that people are unhappy with. Harris will likely try to portray Trump as someone who cut taxes for the rich but doesn’t do much for the middle class. Extensive tariffs were also a central part of Trump’s economic program, which Harris could use to remind people that his first-term tariffs drew a lot of retaliation and ultimately hurt U.S. farmers and other exporters. Horsley says that, similar to other issues like immigration and foreign policy, Trump will paint a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy and present himself as a would-be savior.
