DeAndre Hopkins trade makes it even easier to offload the struggling Chief

The Kansas City Chiefs made the long-awaited move to address their WR needs, trading for DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans.

After Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice landed on the injured reserve list before the season, the Chiefs desperately needed more quality and depth in the WR room. This became more apparent when JuJu Smith-Schuster suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out for Week 8.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have done an admirable job in all of these absences, ensuring the Chiefs are the only team in the league with a perfect record. Luckily for Chiefs fans, the front office wasn’t fooled by the 6-0 start and made a big move before the trade deadline.

One of the little discussed aspects of this deal that will make the fan base even happier is what it means for Skyy Moore and his future with the team.

The former second-round pick has continued to frustrate Chiefs fans with his options this season. In Week 7 against the 49ers, Moore was forced to play 33 offensive snaps after Smith-Schuster went down. The 24-year-old continued his trend from this season and didn’t record any stats. He finished the game with one goal and no catches.

In recent years, Moore has played a role as a punt and kickoff returner. This year, however, Mecole Hardman has that responsibility, making Moore redundant.

Although Moore was given opportunities in Kansas City, he was never able to put them together. A fresh start in a less pressured situation could do wonders for the rest of his career. The Chiefs can now cut him after adding Hopkins, and it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old will find a team willing to take a chance.
