Wade Wilson and Logan don’t have to force their way into the hearts of viewers.

Marvel’s dark superhero comedy “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which celebrated a historic box office success in July, continues to break records following its theatrical release.

Just a day after the digital release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” on Tuesday, the Shawn Levy-directed film became the “best-selling first-time seller” of 2024 for Fandango’s streaming service Fandango at Home, the film distribution company announced in a press release.

“It’s no surprise that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ continues to break records on Fandango services after its initial theatrical release in July,” said Cameron Douglas, SVP Home Entertainment at Fandango. “We’re excited to see so many fans rushing to relive the excitement that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ brought us in the comfort of their own home.”

“Deadpool and Wolverine”: Marvel’s dark comedy shattered a number of records with an opening of $211 million

Upon its theatrical release, the film broke Fandango’s record for most opening weekend ticket sales for an R-rated film, surpassing 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” and the record for best opening weekend ticket sales in 2024.

“Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the title characters, grossed $211 million at the domestic box office in its debut weekend, according to Disney, by far the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film. The record was previously held by the original “Deadpool,” which debuted in 2016 with $132.4 million.

According to Box Office Mojo, the massive success was also the sixth-biggest domestic opening weekend of all time, putting the debut just ahead of “Jurassic World” and behind “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” grossed a whopping $1.3 billion worldwide during its theatrical run.

The film received a ★★★½ rating from USA TODAY film critic Brian Truitt, who described “Deadpool & Wolverine” as a “delightfully meta, proudly gonzo buddy comedy team that is extremely violent, often hilarious, occasionally touching and always “well” termed time.”

“Just as Mel Brooks makes a Marvel event film, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ doesn’t let up with its barrage of meta-jokes that blur the line between fiction and reality,” Truitt writes. “Most of the silliness ends up landing, and the things that don’t happen are shrouded in total chaos anyway. That’s all to be expected when Deadpool is around.”
