A newly married Man who allegedly killed be wife during an argument hours after they got married in KGF Taluk on Wednesday evening, succumbed to injuries sustained in the scuffle on Thursday morning.
The couple married in the village of Chambarasanahalli and later went to groom Naveen Kumar’s uncle, where they fought and sustained serious injuries. While Likithasri, 19, died within minutes of her uncle’s attack, HusbandThe latter was taken to Jalappa Hospital in Kolar.
According to police, Naveen, 27, a resident of Santoor village in Shantipuram mandal in Kuppam taluk of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, had visited Likithasri’s house in Bynahalli village in KGF taluk about six months ago and told her father Srinivas that he would marry her after taking his parents’ consent. Srinivas also reportedly spoke to Likithasri, who agreed to marry Naveen. Both the families decided to solemnize their marriage.
When Aashada Masa, an inauspicious Hindu lunar month, was over, a relative of Naveen called Srinivas on the evening of August 6 and told him that the groom wanted the wedding to take place immediately.
Later that night, Naveen also called Srinivas and told him that there were no auspicious dates after August 7. Wedding should take place the next day.
Left with no other option, Srinivas agreed and around 15 to 20 relatives from both sides gathered for the wedding, which took place at the house of one of Naveen’s relatives in nearby Chambarasanahalli. The ceremony took place between 5.30 and 6.30 am. Later in the afternoon, the two fought in a room at Naveen’s uncle’s house in the village. Naveen, wielding a machete, was seen attacking Likhitasri and was suspected of retaliation.
KGF DySP Panduranga said Naveen succumbed to his injuries at Jalappa Hospital around 7 am on Thursday. Meanwhile, Srinivas alleged that Naveen had intentionally murdered his newly married wife and later inflicted injuries on himself. Police sources said they are investigating all aspects of the incident.
Naveen was running a garment shop in Andersonpet in KGF while Likitha had just completed her PU, the sources said.
