Danny Green is retiring after 15 seasons in the NBA and 3 championships with the Spurs, Raptors and Lakers

After 15 years in the NBA, Danny Green is calling it a career.

Green, 37, played 14 seasons in the NBA for six teams – the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies.

“I never thought I would write this letter, even though I knew this day would eventually come,” Green wrote in a statement posted on social media. “My life revolved around this game, which took me around the world and introduced me to incredible people. It’s been an incredible journey that I’m immensely proud of and I couldn’t have done it without the support of so many.”

“I am who I am because of you, so thank you!

“To all my friends, family, coaches and teammates from high school, college and the pros; to my wife and my little one who pushed me every day to be not only a great player but a better person. I hope I make you proud when I hang up this jersey and sneakers and officially retire from the game.

“I’m excited about the next chapter and looking forward to mastering new challenges.”

Green was part of three NBA title-winning teams with the Spurs (2014), Raptors (2019) and Lakers (2020). He is one of four players in league history to win championships with three different teams.

Before being selected by the Cavaliers in the second round of the draft in 2009, Green played four seasons at the University of North Carolina. During his senior season, he started every game for the Tar Heels that year, ultimately helping the program to its fifth national title.

On his podcast, Green said that after he played just two games for the Sixers last season before he was released, teams didn’t call to take him, and that he then realized his career might be over.

Now that his playing days are behind him, Green hopes to break into the media world to continue being part of the game.
