Dan Campbell announces that Aidan Hutchinson has broken his tibia

Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson required immediate surgery for a broken tibia, coach Dan Campbell said.

The team’s PR corrected Campbell and said it was not a compound fracture.

Hutchinson, the betting favorite for Defensive Player of the Year, suffered a serious left leg injury with 11:43 left in the third quarter. After a 6-yard sack by Dak Prescott, he immediately recognized the gravity.

Medical staff worked on Hutchinson for a long time, eventually placing his left leg in an air cast before loading him onto a cart. The car immediately drove to the tunnel where the ambulance is located, rather than the x-ray room, and headed to a local trauma hospital.

“I hate it for Hutch. “It’s tough,” Campbell said. “It was hard. He’s in good hands at the moment. He is taken care of. He will stay here and of course it will be a while before he gets there. It’s hard, and it’s hard when you lose someone like him. After that we will know a lot more and of course we wish him all the best.”

Hutchinson’s injury was so bad that Fox showed no recurrence of the injury.

Hutchinson made three tackles, one sack and three quarterback hits before his departure and has 7.5 sacks this season.

The Lions defeated the Cowboys 47-9.
