Tottenham Hotspur produced one of their worst games at Selhurst Park as the Lilywhites handed Crystal Palace their first Premier League win of the season with a 1-0 defeat on Sunday.

From kick-off, Spurs never looked right as the passing was sloppy, the defense was poor and the press, which Spurs are known for tearing down defenses, looked lackluster.

With no chance to unsettle the Palace defense in the final third, the Palace attack came into play and began to gain a foothold on the pitch.

Palace won headers and second balls through midfield and took advantage of a Spurs mistake to score the only goal of the game.

Cristian Romero played a pass across the penalty area for Micky Van de Ven to run onto as a Palace defender charged towards him. As Van de Ven tried to get Destiny Udogie a quick lob pass over him, he slipped on his throw, allowing Daniel Munoz to collect it and play a cross into the box against an open Spurs defense. The pass hit Eberechi Eze around the penalty spot, allowing a quick pass that set up Jean-Phillipe Mateta for a controlled touch and goal against the attacking Guglielmo Vicario.

With a 0-1 deficit and the story that Dr. As Tottenham came into the game and Crystal Palace were looking for their first win, the meme remained true as Spurs struggled to score an equalizer.

The team had chances after going down, with Brennan Johnson hitting the post from a corner, James Maddison having a last-second shot saved by Dean Henderson and Richarlison making two great appearances.

Failing to capitalize on any of their chances, Spurs suffered perhaps their worst defeat of the season.

One statistic that stood out on the television broadcast was that Spurs had only won three away league games this calendar season. It’s really hard to see another team away from home that makes many people want consistency.

I think we can all agree that the defeat is a real deflation, but I would like to quickly thank Mikey Moore for becoming the second youngest Spurs player in the Premier League, making his first appearance in the Premier League at 17 Starting eleven was in place. He didn’t look particularly good after his stunning performance in Thursday’s Europa League game, but he wasn’t the only one who had a tough day at Selhurst Park.

Tottenham need to shake off defeat quickly as they face Manchester City in their EFL Cup round of 16 on Wednesday.
