Cowboys stocks: Rising and falling players on the brink after Week 2

The Dallas Cowboys dominated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-12, with quarterback Trey Lance outperforming both of the Raiders’ potential starters.

The Cowboys played a complete game, made as few mistakes as possible, played the ball effectively, passed effortlessly and delivered a strong defensive performance.

Here are the players on the roster whose stocks rose or fell the most in the Cowboys’ Week 2 win of the preseason.

Two Vaughn (RB)

Deuce Vaughn emerged as a standout running back during the Cowboys’ Week 2 preseason win.

He led the team with 34 rushing yards on just five carries and showcased his agility and playmaking ability, particularly on an impressive 12-yard run where he outsmarted a defender with ease. Vaughn also demonstrated his versatility with a 25-yard kick return.

Kemon Hall (CB)

Kemon Hall delivered the play of the game in Week 2 of the preseason with a 69-yard pick-six, proving his playing ability.

Hall, who has spent time on various practice squads, may have finally found a home in Dallas after making consistent plays in training camp and helping to thwart the Raiders’ passing attack.

In addition to his interception, Hall also recorded three tackles in the Cowboys’ triumphant win over the Raiders.

Royce Freeman (RB)

The Cowboys were cautious about signing free agents this offseason, but they did sign six-year veteran Royce Freeman to a one-year deal. So far, the signing looks promising, as

Freeman made the most of his limited opportunities in the preseason, rushing for 32 yards on seven runs.

Despite his solid performance, Freeman’s spot on the roster is not guaranteed, as Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke all have strong arguments for a spot on the roster.

Freeman’s fate will likely depend on how many running backs the Cowboys keep on their 53-man roster.

Racey McMath (WR)

Racey McMath was the Cowboys’ leading receiving yardage player against the Raiders, catching three balls for 54 yards. His standout moment was a 30-yard pass from Trey Lance.

While it’s still an uphill battle for McMath to make the Cowboys’ roster, his performance certainly increases his chances of securing a spot elsewhere should the Cowboys decide to release him.

Malik Davis (RB)

Malik Davis has been on the Cowboys’ waiting list for three seasons, but unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be the year he secures a role in the team’s running game.

Davis struggled in the preseason, rushing for just 14 yards on five carries, the worst among Cowboys running backs, and is likely a candidate to make the Cowboys’ practice squad again.

Jalen Moreno-Cropper (WR)

After a few missed catches and an overall disappointing performance in Week 1, Jalen Moreno-Cropper’s problems continued in Week 2 of the preseason.

He failed to catch his only targeted ball and managed just 19 yards on two punt returns. To top it all off, he also lost a fumble, capping a dismal performance that will hurt his chances of making the final roster.

Snoop Conner (RB)

Snoop Conner had a disappointing performance, rushing for just 15 yards on five carries and no catches on two attempts. While Conner was already an unlikely addition to the Cowboys’ roster, this performance likely seals his fate as a roster prank.
