Every couple wants to have the perfect wedding photos, but one bride and groom may have overlooked an important factor when they decided to have their pictures taken on the beach.

Arthur Gillet, 29, was visiting Nazaré in Portugal with some friends when he spotted the happy couple attempting to take some artistic wedding photos on the sandy beach. As they posed for the camera, they certainly didn’t expect a huge wave to come and wash them away.

Gillet from Liège, Belgium, could hardly believe it when he watched the scene and told Newsweek that they did not seem to have properly assessed the “power of the waves”. Especially when you consider the long wedding dress, which was completely soaked afterwards.

He shared the footage on TikTok (@artrgl), joking that they “chose the wrong location” for the photoshoot. The video immediately went viral, garnering over 174,200 views and more than 940 likes within a few days.

Gillet said: “I was filming the waves, which were smaller than usual, when we saw this newlywed couple being photographed. We thought it was so funny because the shoot looked quite complicated and then suddenly this unfolded before our eyes.

“I was pretty high up, filming from the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo, but the bride and groom and their accompanying guests seemed to laugh about it. This will certainly make for some spontaneous wedding photos.”

Gillet and his friends initially went to the beach to watch the ocean, as Gillet said it had “the biggest waves in the world.” Although he probably didn’t expect to see those waves instead, it will no doubt be a great vacation memory.

After witnessing this memorable moment for the couple, Gillet explained that he did not believe the ceremony took place on the beach, only the photos.

He also noticed other people on the sand who were also waiting for their moment. Let’s hope they managed to dodge the waves after seeing what happened to this couple.

The reaction on social media

Gillet was surprised by the overwhelming response to his video on the Internet.

Since the post has gone viral on TikTok, he hopes the happy couple will see it and maybe even reveal how their wedding photos turned out.

He told Newsweek: “I’ve never seen anything like this before, but after I decided to post it on TikTok, I didn’t expect it to be so successful. I’m now looking for this couple and hope they laugh when they see this video. I really hope that one day I can see the results of the photos too.”

The video sent TikTok users into hysterical laughter, with one commenting: “At least you’ll never forget this day.”

Another TikToker added: “At least they will have good memories.”

And another comment reads: “I can’t get over it.”
