Could Zack Snyder make a movie in James Gunn’s DCU?

According to his previous comments, Zack Snyder has no plans to direct a DCU film set in a Gunn-led universe.

Last year, Snyder spoke to The Atlantic about his possible return to the new DCU to make a superhero film. He revealed that he won’t be chasing Gunn to ask him to offer him a superhero film. In addition, he mentioned that he has no intention of making a DCU film and said he has been focused on developing original IPs.

“I’m not knocking on James Gunn’s door and saying, ‘Bro, make me one of those great movies.’ The holy grail is an original intellectual property that you create that resonates and is cool,” he added.

Given these comments, he is unlikely to return to the DCU anytime soon. Snyder initially helped establish the DCEU, directing the Henry Cavill-starring Man of Steel. Over the years, he has gained a loyal fan base who love his darker take on superheroes, creative vision, and visual storytelling. Following his DCEU stint, he helped direct the Rebel Moon film series.

Justice League (2017) was the last time he directed a DCEU film. However, he left his position as director during production, and Joss Whedon took over the role. In an interview with CinemaBlend, he explained that he stepped away from Justice League due to his daughter’s suicide. He wanted to spend time with his family and had no desire to return to finish the film.

“I was just fed up with it,” the director said. “I was at a point where I knew my family needed me more than all this crap, and I just have to honor them and do my best to heal this world.”

A director’s cut of Justice League, titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, was released later in 2021 and received mostly positive reviews from critics and fans.
