Could the Colorado Avalanche look at John Gibson as a solution?

It’s still early in the season, but the Colorado Avalanche have a goaltending problem. Alexander Georgiev hasn’t been good in short selection this season. His play hasn’t been good since the Seattle Kraken knocked the Avalanche out of the playoffs in 2023.

While Georgiev led the NHL in wins last season, he had a lot of help and protection and there were many nights where he lost Avalanche games.

NHL Injuries: Avalanche, Red Wings, Kings, Rangers, Senators, Penguins and Blues

During a Monday talk about goaltending on TSN Radio in Montreal, Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period was asked if Ville Husso would be claimed off waivers and how Colorado could have picked him up to solve their problems but the money from Husso’s $4.7 million salary Dollar couldn’t make that work.

“I mean, that was the first team I looked at as soon as I saw him (Husso) come up on waivers,” Pagnotta said. “I’m not sure how that would work. $4.7 million is tough. That’s the hard part.”

However, since Husso wasn’t an option for the Avalanche, what about John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks? As Pagnotta explained, Colorado could come into play because the Ducks have flexibility to keep a contract.

“Maybe Colorado comes into play because the Ducks have flexibility and can keep their salary,” Pagnotta said.

As the host pointed out, it’s a great fit. Not to mention that Gibson wants to leave Anaheim.

“Yeah, I mean, Gibson is itching, like he has been for a few years. He didn’t want things to become public,” Pagnotta said. “I think it was three years ago when things really hit the headlines when he told the Ducks he was ready to explore other options and a change of scenery that made sense. He wants to try it, but be there as a potential cup candidate.

I think it will just be a motivating factor for him. And this could perhaps be a sneaky addition for the Avs, and we’re speculating out loud right now, but this could be a very sneaky addition for Colorado if they make the money work and not just get him, but you’re going to get a highly motivated one Get a player who wants to win. That could be an interesting thing, maybe, who knows, maybe it develops further and something happens later in the season.”

Colorado Avalanche is still a good team with goaltending issues

As Pagnotta, it’s all speculation right now between Anaheim and Colorado. It makes sense for the Colorado Avalanche and GM Chris MacFarland to see themselves as Stanley Cup contenders; They need a goalkeeper who can take them back to the promised land like John Gibson.

The fit makes sense, so we’ll see where this goes.
