Could hurricanes threaten Miami shows?

play

While most Swifties don’t mind dancing through a storm in their best dress, a hurricane is a completely different story.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Florida is currently bracing for a massive hit from Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Milton is expected to double in size when it makes landfall. The current forecast and hurricane tracker show Hurricane Milton making landfall as a Category 3 tropical cyclone with winds in excess of 120 miles per hour. The storm is expected to cross the Florida Peninsula in the following hours and exit into the Atlantic Ocean, possibly on the Space Coast.

Was able to see the Eras tour Trouble, trouble, trouble with impending hurricanes heading to Milton? Here’s what you should know.

When and where do the “Eras Tour” dates take place in Miami?

Taylor Swift will perform near Miami, Florida at the Hard Rock Stadium at 347 Don Shula Drive in Miami Gardens from Thursday, October 18 through Saturday, October 20, 2024.

When is hurricane season?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. Tropical activity increases between mid-August and mid-October, with the peak of the season occurring on September 10th.

When does hurricane season finally end? Mark your calendars, but there’s more to know

Swift’s dates in Miami are in the final weeks of hurricane season. Could concerts be affected?

It’s definitely possible. Even if the concerts are less than two weeks away.

“October is historically an active month, particularly in the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and off the southeast coast of the United States,” Brian McNoldy, a hurricane researcher at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, told USA TODAY.

Taking the storm names that have been retired since 1953 as a proxy for storms that made landfall and had a major impact, September has the most names retired, with 43, McNoldy said. August and October are essentially tied at 21 and 20, and only seven storm names were removed from the November storms.

But it’s also worth noting that October and November combined have more retired storm names than June, July and August combined, he said. “That is why we must continue to pay attention to the risk of tropical cyclones as the hurricane season continues.”

What will the weather be like for the Eras Tour dates in Miami?

When planning your outfit for the concert, be sure to consider the weather.

October daytime temperatures in Miami typically reach the mid-80s. However, according to The Farmers’ Almanac’s forecast for this year’s fall in Florida, October will be just a few degrees cooler than usual across the state, with the predicted average temperature at 76 degrees.

The Weather Channel also said that while most parts of the country will experience above-average temperatures this month, the only exceptions will be in the Pacific Northwest and South Florida.

How active was the current hurricane season?

According to experts, very active.

USA TODAY points out that the year began with predictions of a hyperactive season, followed by Beryl’s explosive and record-breaking landing in early July. Then there was a strange mismatch between activity in the Pacific and Atlantic, and later a lull in the middle of the season.

After Hurricane Helene struck deadly and devastating territory across the Southeast last week, experts said any hope for a “quiet hurricane season for the U.S.” has been dashed.

And they were right — just two weeks later, Milton was sprinting toward Florida’s Gulf Coast as a powerful Category 4 storm with winds of 145 miles per hour. Devastating impacts are forecast for Florida, including life-threatening storm surges, flooding rainfall and damaging winds.

Has Taylor Swift ever canceled a concert?

In her 18-year career as an artist, Swift has canceled a number of concerts and performances:

  • Vienna “Eras Tour” shows: Most recently she canceled three appearances in Austria due to the threat of terrorism.
  • Buenos Aires: Swift postponed her October 10 show to October 12 after heavy rain in the Argentine capital.
  • Lovers festival: Your 2020 concerts were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Melbourne Cup horse racing: In 2019, she canceled a concert at the Melbourne Cup horse race, saying “changes to her Asian performance schedule would have made it logistically impossible” for her to attend the Cup.
  • Bangkok, Thailand: During her Red Tour, she canceled a sold-out concert after Bangkok fell under military rule following a coup.
  • Speak Now Tour: She canceled four shows in Louisville, Kentucky, Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, NC due to bronchitis. She has postponed the July shows to October and November.

Will I get my money back if a hurricane messes up the Miami tour dates? What Ticketmaster says

Ticketmaster, which handled ticket sales for the tour in the U.S., says it can only offer refunds or exchanges if an event is canceled or postponed.

They state that if an event is canceled, no action is required to obtain a refund. Once funds are received from the Organizer, payment will be processed via the original payment method used at the time of purchase.

Different rules apply to the transfer and resale of tickets (and some others). You will be asked to review your available options in your email notification.

Other sites like StubHub or SeatGeek also state that an event must be canceled in order for them to offer a refund.

Check out the times Taylor Swift donated to areas damaged by hurricanes or tornadoes

Swift is known to have donated hundreds of thousands to local food banks during her tour stops. But has she ever donated to storm relief? According to Billboard Magazine, she has done the following:

  • August 2016: She donated $1 million to flood relief in Louisiana after torrential rains caused massive flooding in the state, killing at least 11 people and damaging at least 40,000 homes.
  • September 2017: Swift donated to the Houston Food Bank after Hurricane Harvey.
  • March 2020: Donated $1 million to help victims of the tornadoes that destroyed homes and killed at least 24 people in Tennessee. “Nashville is my home and the fact that so many people in Middle Tennessee have lost their homes and more is devastating to me,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “I donated to the Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund.”
  • Dec 2023: Donated $1 million to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee after tornadoes killed at least six people, injured dozens and damaged hundreds of buildings.
